As you may already know, Super Bowl is much more than just a game – it’s an experience! Whether you’re planning to watch it for the game, the commercials, the halftime show or just joining for the fun of it, here are 14 amazing facts, that you can drop at a bar and impress your fellow football fans with on Game Day.

1. Once Upon a Time

Did you know, that the first-ever Super Bowl was held on January 15, 1967? And the first two Super Bowls were almost lost to soap operas? Back in 1967 and 1968, the big games weren’t broadcasted live. Luckily, a single fan was found to have recorded the events.

2. Dripping Diamonds

Did you know, that the players, coaches, and staff of the winning team will get Super Bowl rings dripping with diamonds?

The NFL pays for 150 rings for the winning team, at a total cost of $5,000,000, depending on the gold, diamonds and other gems. The rings are customized with the player’s name and uniform number.

The most expensive Super Bowl rings were manufactured for the 2015 New England Patriots winners at a reported cost of $36,500. 

3. The Most Watched Halftime Show

Yup, the most watched halftime show was Katy Perry’s performance at the Super Bowl XLIX! She (and Left Shark’s rogue dance moves) drew even more viewers than the game itself. Her performance was watched by 118 million people. Surprised?

4. Lady Gaga Will Headline The 2017 Halftime Show

Gaga will be performing at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show. Last year’s show featured a star parade of Coldplay, Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, and Mark Ronson.  Previous performers have also included big names like Prince, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, and The Rolling Stones.

As for what Lady Gaga will do during her time on stage, your guess is as good as ours, but between her old hits, there is plenty of great material to work with.

5. Gossip!

It was previously rumored that the world famous “Hello” singer Adele could have been a possible performer at this year’s halftime show. Adele, however, announced that she had turned down an offer to perform at the Super Bowl 2017, but later on, NFL and Pepsi claimed that they never even made her an offer.

6. Boooooooobs WARNING!

Can you believe it has been 13 years already since Janet Jackson had a nipple slip during Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show?

Let’s throwback to 2004 and relive the moment…

Janet kicked off the performance, singing “Rhythm Nation” solo before Justin Timberlake joined her on stage with “Rock Your Body.” At the very end, Justin ripped off a part of Janet’s top, revealing her right breast. Since the racy moment was met with outrage by fans and the media apologies and excuses were made, and the whole thing was deemed a “wardrobe malfunction.”

7. Super Bowl Blackout

Super Bowl XLVII will forever be remembered for a period of darkness!

Minutes after Jacoby Jones gave the Ravens a 28-6 lead on the second-half kickoff, the lights went out in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Some backup lighting remained lit, but the game was stopped for about 34 minutes, and the international television broadcast was interrupted.

Who’s up for football drinking games?

There is nothing better than a cold beer while watching a game and the Super Bowl is no exception! Did you know, that the Americans will drink 50 million cases of beer on Super Bowl Sunday? Crazy right?!

Well, not all beer is created equal, but about 94 percent of the beer consumed will be Bud Light, Budweiser, Coors Light, Miller Lite, or Natural Light.

9. SUPER-SIZE Appetite

Super Bowl is practically an unofficial national holiday, so it’s no surprise that the day is called a food fest as well. However, everyone enjoys a good Super Bowl party, especially when there’s food involved!

The event is actually the second-highest day of food consumption after Thanksgiving.

10. Tons of Guacamole

Guacamole has become a fan favorite over the years. But did you know, that 8 million pounds of guacamole is consumed on Super Bowl Sunday and 14.500 tons of chips are eaten along with that guacamole? Om nom nom!

11. SUUUUPER Pizza

Super Bowl is also the biggest day of the year for pizza sales! Domino’s Pizza expects to sell about 9 million slices of pizza, about 44 percent more than a typical Sunday. Pizza Hut also expects a 50% increase.

Delivery drivers will log about four million miles and can expect a normal two dollar tip to $20.

12. Commercial Prices Are Sky-Rocketing

In addition to all the sport and music that Super Bowl has to offer, audiences also look forward to watching the commercials.

Super Bowl commercials have been examples of some of the finest works in advertising. Getting 30 seconds is known to be extremely expensive.

Back in the ’60s, Super Bowl commercials would cost as low as $37,500. This year it costs up to $5 million for a 30-second spot.

13. 10,000 Volunteers Are Needed

The Super Bowl is a massive event and therefore it requires a large number of volunteers. 

Recruitments for volunteers for Super Bowl LI began in August 2016. Over 15.000 people were interviewed in order to create the team of 10.000 volunteers which will be assisting in all of the Super Bowl activities.
